Needs a New Title

Lines Composed Observing “The Block”

A ghetto skyline capitulates with

Arms of Passion in a Southpark “esq”

Alphabet City.

Underneath the neighborhood bum

A street with death and damnation

An angel seeks the conception

The unwanted.

Ole time southern religion is heard

In a gossip tavern for men.

Duct tape holding the hopes and

Terrors of the innocent.

Protected by mousetraps and young love.

An aura of social camaraderie and pride

With a unity of turf and belonging

As they honor one of their own…

While the oldest profession observes

Behind masks of shame

All documented by the man on the stairs

The writer, the artist, on “The Block”.

I noticed when you viewed “The Block” you went down the block dissecting it in sections, thus, my title suggestions are Down the Block or Alphabet City. It is well written with a continuing flow so you could really pull any line from your poem for the title Terrors of the innocent, for example, would fit for the title as well. I hope you find a title that fits soon.

For what it's worth, I like the poem and the title very much. It's an honest description of the inspiration!

Hi Jason,

I enjoyed your poem so much. Reading it I got the impression that you gained a great deal of insight of life on the block from our virtual field trip. I hope you save this piece of writing to share in countless other venues because it is quite beautiful, and obviously inspired.
